ECONOMY: OECD TO PUBLISH ECONOMIC SURVEY OF INDIA ON 14 JUNE 2011.

PARIS, France -- The following information was released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD):

The OECD will publish its Economic Survey of India on Tuesday 14 June 2011. It argues that continuing market-orientated reforms are essential if strong economic growth is to be both sustainable and socially inclusive. The survey also looks at policies to improve areas such as health and education.

The survey will be available to journalists in English on the OECD's password-protected website at 06.30 a.m. Paris time (04.30 GMT, 10.00 a.m. in New Delhi) for immediate release.

The survey will be presented by OECD Secretary-General, Angel Gurria, at a symposium open to the media at 09.30 a.m. the same day at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. A question-and-answer session will take place from 10.00 a.m -- 11.00 a.m. Other speakers include Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of India's Planning Commmision and C. Rangarajan, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. To register for the event, journalists are invited to contact: media.registration@oecd.org.

A Policy Brief with the main conclusions of the survey will be freely accessible in pdf format (in English and French) on the OECD's web site at: http://www.oecd.org/eco/surveys/india. You are invited to include this internet link in reports on the survey.

Journalists will be allowed advance access to the electronic version of the publication, by e-mail and under embargo the day before publication.
