IBM TOPS INDIA'S 2011 SUPERCOMPUTERS LIST: INSTITUTE

NEW DELHI - Technology giant IBM has ranked first in terms of supercomputers installed in India, with six such sites, a report by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on Monday said.

As per the "India's Top Supercomputers list for 2011", complied and published by Supercomputer Education and Research Centre (SERC) of IISc, IBM topped the list with six high performance computing (HPC) installations across India.

NEC TO DELIVER POS TERMINALS TO INDONESIAN RETAILER ALFAMART

JAKARTA - Japan's NEC Corp. (TSE:6701) has received a roughly 2 billion yen (US$24.7 million) order for POS (point of sale) terminals from the operator of major Indonesian convenience store chain Alfamart.

PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk ordered slightly more than 10,000 terminals with displays. Delivery will take place over three years, with 2,000 units to be shipped for use in 1,000 stores by March 2012.

JAPAN TECH DIVIDES MEDICAL IMAGE DATA TO ALLAY SECURITY FEARS

TOKYO - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (TSE:3774) is developing the technologies for a service that will offer hospitals a safer way to store and manage medical image data.

The idea is to break up the data for an image into four files for storage on four different servers. Each file will be useless on its own; the only way to reconstruct the image will be via a data center operated by IIJ.

NOKIA TO DRIVE FINANCIAL INCLUSION IN INDIA WITH NEW APP

HCL TECH, FINZOFT EXPAND PARTNERSHIP FOR FINANCIAL IT SOLUTION

NEW DELHI - Indian IT company HCL Technologies (BSE:532281) on Monday expanded its partnership with New Zealand based financial and banking IT solution provider Finzoft to offer uniform product in the segment.

"Both the companies have been working together from quite some time. In May, 2010, we signed a formal agreement to offer financial solutions and on Monday we are extending it to uniform product development," Rajiv Sodhi, senior corporate vice president and chief customer officer, HCL Technologies said.

INDIA'S YBRANT DIGITAL TO ACQUIRE STAKE IN ISRAEL-BASED WEB 3.0

NEW DELHI - Hyderabad-based digital marketing firm Ybrant Digital on Monday said it plans to acquire a minority stake in Israel-based Web 3.0 that also operates in a similar domain, for an undisclosed amount.

"We have signed a letter of intent to acquire a minority stake in Web 3.0 which specialises in mobile marketing...The due diligence is likely to take about two months," Ybrant Digital Chairman and CEO Suresh Reddy said without disclosing details such as the quantum of stake and valuation.

MORE PAYROLL TRAUMA FOR QUEENSLAND NURSES

BRISBANE - Queensland Health is again under fire over the bungled introduction of its payroll system, with nurses asked to prove they don't owe their employer any money.

The northeastern Australian state's government has spent A$90 million (US$93.77 million) fixing the system, which left thousands of workers overpaid, underpaid or not paid at all.

NUMBER OF 3G SUBSCRIPTIONS RISES IN VIETNAM

HANOI - Vietnam's three largest mobile service providers, VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel, confirmed they had a growing number of 3G subscribers after nearly two years of providing the service.

Ngo Dien Hy, director of VinaPhone's centre for value-added services, said the number of 3G subscribers had grown rapidly in the last six months.
