Fed: Media apology coverage fuelled shocking poll reult for Nelson: Robb
One of BRENDAN NELSON'S colleagues says saturation coverage of last week's apology
to the stolen generations .. is partly to blame for the opposition leader's record-low
support.
The latest Newspoll shows Dr NELSON has a preferred prime minister rating of just nine
per cent .. the first time an opposition leader has slipped to single figures.
It compares to Prime Minister KEVIN RUDD's record support .. at 70 per cent.
Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister ANDREW ROBB has told ABC Radio .. the poll just reinforces
the Liberals' need to get back to basics and start to rebuild and reconnect .. after last

NSW:Bruno Carle not guilty of stabbing murder
SYDNEY, Aug 26 AAP - An elated Sydneysider has punched the air after a jury found him
not guilty of murdering a woman and seriously injuring a man in a late-night drinking
session.
Bruno Americo Carle had blamed the attacks on a teenager who was also present at the
drinking session at a Canley Vale unit on February 27, 2009.
Carle, 25, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Charmaine Williams, 36, and the attempted
murder of Bojan "Brian" Momirovski, 30, who was stabbed 12 times.
While in hospital, the seriously injured man identified Carle as his attacker. The
injured man's reliability as a witness was the central issue at the NSW Supreme Court
trial.
The jury also heard evidence that the teenager confessed to another juvenile that he
was responsible for the stabbings.
On Thursday, after only hours of deliberation, the jury cleared Carle of both charges,
prompting him to punch the air and grin widely.
Ms Williams' longtime friend Deanne Duggan later told AAP she was shocked by the verdict.
"It's so sad that, because Charmaine was such a loving, beautiful person, always trying
to help people, that this happened to her," Ms Duggan said.

NSW: Coates takes on Jones in 'no-row' defamation case

NSW: Coates takes on Jones in 'no-row' defamation case
SYDNEY, April 23 AAP - Sydney broadcaster Alan Jones is defending a defamation case
brought by Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates.
A jury had previously found Jones defamed Mr Coates with allegations of bullying and
a cover-up relating to the collapse of Olympic rower Sally Robbins.
Jones was found to have defamed Mr Coates during three broadcasts on radio station
2GB in December 2004, while commenting on the women's eight rowing final at that year's
Athens Olympics.
Jones said leadership had been "sadly lacking" over the incident in which Robbins,
an Australian crew member, stopped rowing before the finish line.
Mr Coates sued Jones and his employer, Harbour Radio, for defamation in the NSW Supreme Court.
In 2005, a jury found Mr Coates had been defamed by imputations that he practised a
cover-up and had bullied the rowers into saying what he wanted them to say at a press
conference following the "no-row" affair.
Mr Coates was also defamed by suggestions that he had handled the matter incompetently,
the jury found.
A hearing began today before Justice Michael Adams, who will determine whether Mr Coates
should be paid compensation.
Jones and Harbour Radio are defending the matter on the grounds of comment and substantial truth.
But Bruce McClintock SC, for Mr Coates, told the court the "exceptionally serious"
allegations were made on "an utterly non-existent basis".
"There seems to be some suggestion that Mr Coates knew there had been previous incidents
where Sally Robbins had not performed to her full capacity and should have done something
about it," Mr McClintock said.
"He didn't know.
"It's a bit hard to cover up something you don't know."
Mr McClintock also denied that Mr Coates had bullied the female rowers, saying: "There
was no bullying."
The hearing continues.

Fed:Dumping migration bill leaves backdoors open to threat
CANBERRA, Aug 15 AAP - Liberal backbencher Warren Entsch says the dumping of tough
immigration laws left Australians living in remote areas open to disease and security
problems.
"They (Australians) could wake up in the middle of the night with total strangers standing
on their back doors with no health checks, no background checks whatsoever," Mr Entsch
told reporters.
"(It) puts them and their families at risk so, yes, for that reason I am certainly disappointed."
He said the dumping of the legislation showed Liberal Party members were free to vote
as they wanted.
The changes would have seen illegal refugees arriving on the mainland by boat forced
into offshore processing centres.
Prime Minister John Howard yesterday withdrew the bill from the Senate after he realised
it would be defeated.

Qld: Flooding recedes but more rain expected
BRISBANE, April 8 AAP - Flood waters that swept a car from a north Queensland road
are receding, but heavy rain continues to threaten the region.
A 48-year-old man suffered hypothermia after his car was swept from a flooded road in Bowen.
A Counter Disaster and Rescue Service (CDRS) spokesman said the man escaped from the
car and made his way to the opposite bank, where he was plucked to safety by CDRS workers
about 7.15pm (AEST) yesterday.
Receding waters meant the Bruce Highway could reopen today after days of heavy rain
left it flooded at Sandy Gully, 10km north of Bowen.
Flood warnings for the Don River had been lifted, but minor flood warnings were current
for many rivers in the region, a Queensland Weather Bureau spokesman said.
The bureau reports minor to moderate flooding in the Burketown and Normanton area with
rising river levels in the lower Norman River and lower Leichhardt River.
Minor flooding is easing on the Diamantina River around Elderslie and is continuing
on the Georgina River between Urandangie and Glenormiston.
The Dawson River has risen with some minor flooding from Theodore to Baralaba.
The weather bureau and emergency crews were on standby with thunderstorms and heavy
rain predicted to hit north Queensland this afternoon, the weather bureau said.
The cyclone ravaged Innisfail region will be in the storm's path, but rain is not expected
to hamper clean-up efforts since buildings have already been weather-proofed with emergency
tarpaulin roof repairs.
Meanwhile, power has been restored to the coastal tourist centre of Mission Beach,
devastated by Cyclone Larry three weeks ago.
Another 3,300 residents and business owners were still without power in the Innisfail
area, Ergon Energy said, but an estimated 2,000 properties may be too damaged to be reconnected.

Politicians told to get election process going.
Provided by 7DAYS.ae
The UN envoy to Iraq yesterday urged politicians to get moving on a key provincial election law that remains bogged down in controversy over the administration of the oil-rich province of Kirkuk.eIuIt is necessary to hold the provincial election at the end of this year, or at least by early next year,eIN Staffan de Mistura told reporters after meeting IraqeIUs most respected Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Najaf.eIuThere is no justification to delay this election,eIN he said in the central holy city.
Iraq had been due to go to the polls on October 1 but the long-awaited legislation to oversee the ballot has faced repeated delays over the political handling of the disputed northern province.MPs failed to agree on the electoral law before parliament went on summer recess from August 6 to September 9.eIuThere are risks if this election is not held because we will face the issue of the provincial councils being illegal, when the period is over,eIN de Mistura said. The elections are now expected to be postponed to early 2009 because parliament has yet to pass the law. However, an election commission member said that if parliament passed the legislation by September 15, the vote could still be held this year.

'For you, a thousand times over'.
Sri Lanka, May 20 -- I pen these words at the exact date. But it is a year later, in a different place and a different time.
It is not as if the thought had been eating at me or that I had been ticking off days in the calender till May 6. The day started off with an odd sentiment. It was as if a gut feeling was telling me that the day had more in store for me than I knew. It was a feeling that I just couldn't pinpoint or shake off.
Afternoon dawned and with it the hour approached. What was this strange feeling that befell me? What was this veil which covered me and began to choke me till I thought that my lungs will burst? Then it struck me. My eyes were burning. A dagger plunged into old wounds.
Nothing's forgotten... Nothing is ever forgotten...
The last time I set eyes on you, the last moment you uttered my name, the last day you held my hand... All these are treasured memories, frozen in time.
You can stitch a torn cloth. You can glue together a cracked vase. You can piece together a electronic device when it doesn't work but how do you mend a broken heart?
You can surf the internet for weeks and buy every self help book available at the market but you are going to be hard pressed to find anything that will give you a remedy to a broken heart.
Your survival instincts will tell you to dive into a deep period of self-evaluation and improvement. The bitter part of you fires you up with general hatred towards fate and the opposite sex. The 'optimists' will always tell you, "don't worry something better awaits you". However, when the pain of loss is ravaging your body these words of advice seem more like trying to talk a virus out of creating an infection.
Just like there is no magical drug that can cure a virus, you have no other choice but to let your broken heart just run its course. It may be burying yourself deep in your work, finding any form of distraction or weeping it all off, but finally you emerge out of your shell. You feel like you can live again.
Time pass. Some simply crave to erase these recollections because they evoke bitter feelings while for others the memories are bittersweet. Their love for their partner is cremated deep within their heart. From time to time these sweet memories surface but nothing in the world would make them wish that they had never set eyes on their partner.
Months later my friend asks, "Shehara, if you were to turn back time, would you have done things differently? Would you have made different choices, undone or taken back some of the words once spoken between you?"
"Never," I said because my past with you is an untarnished gift. Yes, there are moments that I would sacrifice almost anything to be back by your side, to lean my head on your shoulder and look into your eyes. Words need not be spoken, actions need not betray how we felt about each other. I will endure all that which fallowed and more. Only one phrase that I have come across had set these emotions to words: 'For You, a Thousand Times Over'
Shehara

The exhibition, held at London's Olympia venue attracted nearly 3000 attendees ranging from data centre managers, professionals and distributors through to channel partners. The exhibition also featured over 40 sessions to provide attendees with an in-depth knowledge of the latest trends and topics in the data centre industry.
The event saw C4L adding Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS) and Data Centre Migration to their already extensive portfolio. RadiSys Introduces Voice Quality Enhancement for the Convedia Media Server Product Family.
Innovative Design Resolves Key VoIP Quality Challenges for Conferencing Service Providers
HILLSBORO, Ore. -- RadiSys[R] Corporation (NASDAQ:RSYS), a leading global provider of advanced embedded solutions, today announced the addition of Voice Quality Enhancement (VQE) features for the RadiSys Convedia[R] Media Server. The new VQE solution removes the common sources of poor voice quality in VoIP conferencing applications, including noise, packet loss and echo, in addition to capturing statistics for voice quality measurement suitable for upholding service level agreements (SLAs). Through the innovative integration of VQE features with RadiSys Convedia media servers, conferencing service providers (CSPs) and their VoIP application development partners can address both IP media processing and VoIP quality improvements in a single network element. The integrated media server minimizes network complexity and CAPEX and OPEX costs, while improving audio quality for a broad range of VoIP and IMS services.
Next-generation conferencing architectures based on VoIP technology bring economic benefits with new feature capabilities for CSPs. However, they also present new technical challenges in maintaining acceptable voice quality. For CSPs, delivering good voice quality is an important requirement in their VoIP conferencing system, as poor voice quality could increase the costs associated with customer churn, while impacting the bottom line by reducing revenue growth opportunities.
RadiSys media servers with VQE technology cost-effectively overcome the sources of poor voice quality in IP packet networks. For multi-party VoIP conferencing services experiencing audio noise caused by background sounds or sub-optimal network and terminal equipment, VQE implements noise gating, noise reduction and noisy line detection mechanisms. VQE technology also includes packet loss concealment by intelligently restoring audio packets lost or unacceptably delayed by traffic congestion on the Internet. RadiSys Convedia media servers with VQE also remove acoustic echo by continuously monitoring all VoIP call legs, dynamically detecting echoes and selectively applying echo cancellation. Finally, all VQE features are supported with new audio and packet statistics, allowing CSPs to continuously measure audio quality for performance measurement and support SLAs with customers.
"Now that VoIP technology deployment has moved beyond early adoption to large production deployments, maintaining VoIP audio quality in large-scale networks has become a major focus among conferencing service providers," said Marc Beattie, Managing Partner, Wainhouse Research. "By integrating voice quality improvement capabilities within its Convedia media servers, RadiSys enables its customers to deliver dramatically improved call quality on a large scale."
RadiSys' integration of a comprehensive VoIP audio quality improvement package with existing IP media processing capabilities establishes an industry first among IP media server vendors. By consolidating both sets of real-time IP packet processing requirements in the same network element, RadiSys Convedia media servers with VQE improve audio quality, minimize end-to-end delay, streamline network integration and reduce CAPEX and ongoing OPEX costs through consolidated utilization of network equipment resources.
"As our conferencing service provider customers grow their VoIP network deployments, they have also expressed a desire for carrier-class solutions to address VoIP audio quality challenges," said David Smith, General Manager, RadiSys Media Server Business Unit. "Solutions to address VoIP audio quality, just like IP media processing for enhanced services, require sophisticated real-time IP media packet processing capabilities. Adding Voice Quality Enhancement is a natural addition to RadiSys Convedia media servers, and another innovative example of RadiSys applying its engineering expertise in solving real-world deployment issues for our customers."
