Fed: Man sets fire to himself at Parly House flown to Sydney

A man who set himself on fire in front of school children outside Parliament House
in Canberra today has been airlifted to Sydney.

An ACT ambulance spokesman says the man is in a serious condition with burns to 50
per cent of his body.

He says the ambulance service received an emergency call at 1.30pm (AEST) and took
the man to Canberra Hospital.

The SouthCare helicopter had been called in to transfer him to the burns unit of a
Sydney hospital.

Onlookers say the area has been sealed off and burnt fragments of clothing are lying
on the ground.

It is believed a security guard used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
