FED: Internet crash leaves emailers out of contact
SYDNEY, Aug 7 AAP - More than a million email users throughout Australia had theiremail disconnected for several hours today when the Telstra BigPond internet system crashed.
The fault meant incoming messages were not being processed.
"There was no impact on existing email messages but some of our users would have foundthat they couldn't retrieve new messages," said Telstra's retail public affairs managerKerrina Lawrence.
"However, all existing messages were still stored in the system and our users shouldfind their messages will have gradually come back online from about 10.15 this morning."
"We have over a million customers, but not all of them were affected this morning.
"No email should be lost and we have done all we can to minimise the impact on our customers."
Telstra BigPond is the biggest email service provider in Australia, with almost 1.2million customers.
